The city-state of Korvosa, largest in all Varisia with a population of almost twenty thousand, has prospered over the last century since its abandonment by its founding nation of Cheliax. Its port brims with black-and-red-flagged ships - the colours of both Korvosa and Cheliax - endlessly trading fineries from the South for Varisian curiosities and her land's natural bounty. As such, Korvosa rightfully claims to be the most cultured and civilized city in the region, yet visitors might also grant the city-state the titles of most decadent, exploitative, and socially stratified. Ruled by King Eodred Arabasti II, who sits upon the Crimson Throne, and his beautiful, but oh so young wife, Queen Illeosa Arabasti, Korvosa is a metropolitan city of wealth and power, of powerful families ever vying to increase their wealth and influence, and, of course, of the poor spread throughout the city.
Korvisa is made up of 7 districts - East Shore, Gray, the Heights, Midland, Old Korvosa, North Point, and South Shore, and many of these are broken further into wards:
Gray - Potter’s Ward, Everyman Ward, Gold Ward, and Sepulcher Ward.
Heights - Citadel Crest, Cliffside, and University.
Midland - High Bridge, Pillar Hill, Slope, and West Dock.
North Point - Five Corners, Mainshore, Northgate, and Ridgefield.
Old Korvosa - Bridgefront, Fort Korvosa, Garrison Hill, and Old Dock.
This bustling city is dominated by two hills upon which the majority of the city sits - Garrison Hill on Endrin Isle (Old Korvosa) and Citadel Hill, where Castle Korvosa sits, the centrepiece of the city which towers over everything and from King Eodred II rules from the Crimson Throne. The immense castle is comprised of two main sections - the Grand Mastaba, an ancient four-sided sandstone pyramid built to a cyclopean scale, and the high-walled citadel itself. The Grand Mastaba predates the city and was built by Shoanti tribes as a holy site. The castle itself was added later and now houses the King, his family, and the seneschal, the second most powerful individual in the city who looks after the castle.
Korvosa is also home to The Acadamae, a famed wizarding school which teaches all eight schools of magic, but whose primary focus lies in conjuration. Due to the unprecedented conjuring activities of the students, Korvosa is now overrun with a population of imps, who are a constant menace. To counter this, psuedodragons are also a common feature, who live amongst the rooftops and battles between the two factions are not uncommon. Both are commonly found living in the Shingles, a haphazard and ever shifting series of structures and walkways in the rooftops and rafters of Korvosa.
